In his sculptural work the artist Christof Knapp, who lives in Gummersbach, has for many years been intensively involved with the material wood. He develops his sculptural concepts both from the natural material as well as from industrially manufactured panel materials. Various series of wall sculptures are created partly from free ink drawings, partly from precisely constructed pencil drawings, which are then transferred to wooden panels and sawn out. A wide variety of plastic-spatial and sensitive colour and surface structures are created. Knapp's sculptures and reliefs radiate rational austerity on the one hand and associative power and breathing lightness on the other.
